last night i received a call from my mom saying that two of my brothers were in a car accident. both were going to separate hospitals, one with a head injury. thank god they are both okay and recovering but the thoughts that run through your head. life is just so precious. and i'm so incredibly grateful to god for his protection of them...i remember my parents praying for their protection that morning, just like they do every morning. it's kind of dream like in my head...they pray in the morning and god hears them. his ears are attentive to our cry...to our requests...to our petitions. then fast forward to the end of the day and i picture what i think their accident might have looked like...and i see his hand. it's strong and gentle and swift. oh, thank you my lord for protecting those that i love so dearly. thank you for being a god who hears and sees and feels and acts. what would i be without you?

this was one of the nights during the last week of the school. we had watched a movie and played settlers. it was raining outside and almost past curfew. momma mindy had to send them off in black plastic garbage bags so they didn't get too wet. we were laughing so hard as i was shoving them out the door to get home. then, of course, it stopped raining. some of them ran home without posable arms...cause the bags didn't have arm holes. anyway, i shut the door that night and couldn't stop giggling. oh, the people that come into your life. they are precious.

well, i haven't been on this thing in ages. i'm at home now in seattle. my plan is to work until the end of the year and pay off debt that i have and then i'm returning to my other home in townsville, australia.

i'm enjoying the wonders of washington...like good coffee around every street corner, trees, family and last week it rained...oh i love the rain!

i just finished reading a wrinkle in time. a lot of people tell me they read it as a child but i didn't read fairy tales as a child. i think it's because i grew up too fast. i didn't have time for fantasy...but now i do. especially if it's madeleine l'engle, george macdonald or cs lewis.

well, i need to get back to my reading...i'm starting on a wind in the door next. charles wallace thinks there's dragons in the garden.

This past week we welcomed in 33 new students from 8 different nations. Some have been planning on doing a DTS (Discipleship Training School) for a couple years now and some decided just recently to come join our family. Stories of God's faithfulness have been rolling off their tongues this week and anticipation is brewing for what God has in store during the next 5 1/2 months.

Patriotically, we spent the first afternoon together partaking in a good ole Aussie BBQ and Tim Tam Slams. There was also a time of worship, where we were challenged to lay everything down at the feet of Jesus.

We all gathered together as a base to welcome the new DTS and SOMM (School of Music in Missions) into our family at the beginning of the week. We spent time getting to know each other, praying for one another and general orientation details. Humility was definitely a theme during worship and God was calling us to simply come as we are.

The latter part of the week was spent together as a DTS. At the core of our faith is the Gospel, so Andrew spent time laying it out for us. We also spent time going over hearing God's voice, learning styles and identity. Joanne led us in her famous postcard exercise on hearing God's voice and God spoke significantly to many of the students, as well as the staff. It's exciting to see how God is moving already and it's only the first week.

All in all, it's been a pretty full week and I'm sure everyone will be resting well over the weekend. The DTS will have the opportunity to serve in either our Youth Street or Backstage ministries on Saturdays and we'll be looking forward to hearing how that's going over the next couple of weeks. Thank you for your prayers!

well, it's hard to believe that my time away is coming to an end. tomorrow we leave nikki's to drive up to brisbane, where we'll spend new year's and then fly out the next day.

i feel at peace and refreshed...more than i have in a long time!

i've taken naps at my leisure...spent hours in coffee shops...verbally processed the past year with my friends...experienced god's deep refreshing and comfort over my soul...watched the lord of the rings trilogy once again...been fed like kings and queens...laughed until my stomach ached and more...talked to god like a friend again...blessings upon blessings upon blessings...so countless to name!

i am ready to go home to townsville and jump into all that god has in store.

this afternoon there was a delightfully random rainshower. first there was thunder and then came the rain...in case you were wondering the order. the sounds were glorious! when the rain let up a bit and the sun was peeking through the clouds sporatically, i took my camera out into the elements and caught some moments.

on monday our friend nikki joined our journey and picked us up in brisbane. we then took a five hour road trip down the coast to her house. it was a beautiful drive! most of the time i felt like i was driving through the shire, like in the lord of the rings. i took about 500 thousand photos...i was captivated and my imagination was whirling. the clouds were amazing that day as well...so many shapes and sizes...breathtaking...stunning. by the way, it was absolutely genious to see nikki again. sometimes i think we forget the deep peace that accompanies friends who truly know you.

so now i'm going to tell you about the two train incidents...
1. the lady that we stayed with in brisbane was kind enough to drop us off at the train station. it was a sunday and a bit quiet. no big deal right? we had about five minutes until the train was to arrive. now since it was sunday the ticket counter was shut so we had to use the automated ticket machine. no big deal right? WRONG! the machine only took coins and between the three of us we only had about six of the twenty four dollars we need for all day passes. we started to panic and run all over the train station asking people to trade cash for change. we had two minutes left...we are still rounding up change as we are throwing it into the machine as the train is coming. we here it down the tracks...we are freaking out! we still have two tickets to go. the train stops and we are still pumping coins into that stupid machine...yelling...laughing...trying to get the passes before the train starts going again. let's just finish by saying that as soon as the last pass printed out, we were running to get on the train and as soon as we did the doors shut and off we go. talk about an adrenaline rush!
2. fast forward to the end of the day. it's about an hour train ride to where we are staying from the city...so we get cozy. so we are sitting there listening to our music, reading and just having a jolly ole' time! we have no idea what time it is cause none of us have watches and apparently we forgot that our cell phones told the time. at any rate, time flies and all of the sudden we are at a stop and i ask which stop is this...christina flies up and runs to the door as she realizes that this is our stop. tammy and i are trying to round up all our stuff as christina is screaming at the door and pushing all the buttons in the vicinity including the emergency button...she gets the door open and runs outside only to run back inside cause she realizes we are not going to make it out. so there we are in an empty train, having just missed our stop and practically peeing our pants with laughter. needless to say we went to the next stop and waited a half hour until the train went back to our stop. this photo was taken as we were waiting for the train to go again. good times!

i think i've said before that the hardest part of rto is saying goodbye to friends who leave...but oh is it a joy to reunite with them! and that's exactly what happened as i began my holidays in brisbane. christina, tammy and i flew out of townsvill last saturday and stayed a couple nights. we met up with the beautiful naomi kelly, which was pure goodness! our first stop after getting off the train and meeting her was starbucks...of course. just walking into a starbucks makes me feel at home. it's kind of a sick obsession i have actually.

we had a nice day in brisbane...checking out some markets, sharing a meal together and just catching up.

we had two separate train incidents which i'll explain later. oh, trains! you wouldn't thought we were in a foreign country and hadn't actually lived in australia for the past year.

today was my 29th birthday and my friends went it on an espresso machine for me. i was surprised...shocked...ecstatic...blessed beyond flippin' words! i'm blown away by their generousity and love. i will be making lots and lots of espresso's...my roomie and i were talking about opening an internet cafe up at our house! we could pay our staff fees that way. ha, ha! just kidding. after i was given the espresso machine, we brought it home and had an intimate gathering with fondue, coffee and a fun german surprise!

oh, yes! i almost forgot...my espresso machine's name is NORBERT! Norb...Norbie...Norbs. We are already great friends. he is a chunk of stainless steel beauty and i will enjoy him for many months/years to come.

i am loved and that's an amazing feeling.

well, i'm having one of those moments where i'm realizing the incredible blessings in my life. first of all, i'm surrounded by beautiful, amazing people here in townsville as well as encouraged and loved by family and friends at home and all around the fricken world. why is it that sometimes all i can see is my circumstances? sometimes i just stew in my insecurities, doubts and fears...oh, it's hideous! i am surrounded by beauty...completely...on all sides! and if the beauty of people isn't enough...there are colors and trees and leaves and gorgeous hues in the sky...there are sights and sounds and smells...like the smell of coffee...oh, i love it!

so here's to the belief that life is beautiful and i'll be seeking to see that beauty more in my life...

well, i've been missing my family a lot lately. it's not like i ever go through a phase where i don't miss them. it's just that some times it's more intense. i can't really pinpoint the intensification and i don't really know if i want to. but i've been thinking that i don't really like that i can move half a world away and their lives continue without me. now i know what i'm saying is incredibly selfish but i'm just being brutally honest right now. in my mind, i would rather everything be different without me there but it's not. life goes on. i don't know why i'm sharing this with the free world...i just wanted to express what's going on in my mind right now.

i'm going on almost one year since talking to my dad and that definitely stings. i have no way of reaching him and he hasn't attempted to call me. yeah, that stings for sure. and i don't like the ball being in his court because then he has the power to hurt me. but i guess he only has that power if i give it to him. things that make you go hmmmmm...

please pray that God would come into these areas and rain His spirit.

Revelation 22:2b - AND THE LEAVES OF THE TREE ARE FOR THE HEALING OF THE NATIONS.

To put it simple, I want to be a healer of nations. Of course, knowing full well that Jesus is the absolute healer, I want to walk alongside Him and be used to heal nations. What does that mean? I know bits and pieces but to comprehend it fully, I think I might need to be in the hereafter. The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations...Lord, I pray for more insight as to what that means. What does it look like? Where's my place in it? I can't stand to think that I would live a mediocre life only concerned with myself. I refuse to forget the things that are on your heart. I refuse to look away and pretend I don't see hurting people. I refuse to be satisfied with the status quo. I refuse to be satisified until I awake in Your likeness (Psalm ?). I want to be like Abraham who believed when you spoke to him and it was credited to him as righteousness. I want to be a healer. Simply put, I want you.

here's a future hall of famer...what hall of fame i do not know...but she'll be in one of them! or is that only for sports stars. oh, well! you get my point, right? i met sparky (aka jen sparks) on outreach in darwin. she was on staff up there and i thought she was pretty cool. she was the kind of staff that answered all my crazy questions and treated me like one of them. i was so excited when she came to townsville in january to help with iwt. our friendship grew to an unexplainable beautiful thing and now she's moved on too. that's the one thing about life that i don't necessarily like...not being close to loved ones. i wish i could see anyone that i wanted within a couple of minutes. kind of like a beam me up, scotty thing...or if i could just fly there.

have i ever told you that i dream of flying? and i'm not talking about getting on a plane...i'm talking about lifting my fist to the air and taking off. i think it's possible because planes fly and birds...so the possibility is out there...

i wanted to write a few blogs about friends that have moved on to different things. it's not that they've moved out of my life but i certainly won't be seeing them on a daily basis. take nikki for example...we became friends on our dts. we always have these amazing chats about god and life. they just flow and i always leave the converation with revelation of some kind. this woman has encouraged and loved me into the person i am today. during her last months at rto she became my roommate and i wouldn't have had it any other way. i probably wouldn't gone mental if she wasn't there living with me actually. she left at the beginning of august and i miss her presence every day. love you, mate! just wanted to give you a shout out!

Here's a picture of my best friend Laura and her husband Peter. What a wedding it was! I went to it last month but I've been a bit slack in blogging it. Anyway, the wedding was perfect in every way! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. And, look at them, those are NOT fake smiles. It was such a joyous occasion. I loved how my Mom captured this moment with her camera.

today is one of those delightfully random days. first off, i started off in the accounts office helping to plan intercession for tomorrow morning. then people came in for a surprise party for carol, who turned 21 today. someone had the brilliant idea of having a cheezel snorting contest...basically, to put a cheezel in your nose and see how far you can launch it. we were dragging anybody that walked by into the office to try this olympic event. it was great fun. and then i tried having a sword fight with a ceiling fan...but that's a whole other story.

make sure and laugh today...days are wasted without laughter...

well, right now i'm sitting on a blue couch in an area of the warehouse we call the sweet spot. it's the area where everyone hangs out, check's their email or plays a game. my friend/roommate crissa and i are waiting for our roommate, who has a car, to give us a ride home. we've probably could've been home by now but we are really at the point of commitment i say. by that, i mean we can't really turn back on waiting for the ride now. we are tired and if we started walking now, they would probably pass us on the road and we would've wished we'd waited longer. did you catch all those w words i just used. i should write a book about things that start with the letter w. it could be a children's book. we will wait a wittle wonger...he, he, he!

I made it to America. YAY! I stood in line in LA just smilng knowing I was finally in America after flying for what seemed like twenty days. I was blessed with an open seat next to me on the long flight and then instead of sleeping I watched movies on the cool screen imbedded into the back of the seat in front of me. My family greeted me at the airport with signs and flowers and then asked me if I wanted my first Starbucks...let me tell you it was such a good drink...Grande Nonfat Carmel Macchiato...so beautiful.

Last night I had a coffee night thingy at my parent's house. A fair number of people showed up and it was so good to see all my friends from home. Sarah and Lucas are here and staying until Wednesday, when they'll drop me off at the airport and make the trek back to Oregon. Today we are going to Pike Place Market and Vivace Coffee in Downtown Seattle. It's an overcast day...perfect Seattle weather. The sun will surely break through later but I like the dimmed light of overcast skies for now.

When I called my friend Laura, who's wedding I'm for, she was so excited that I was in America...let alone coming to her wedding. It'll be so good to see her on Wednesday night. I'm going to go hang out with God and tell him how thankful I am for all the BEAUTIFUL people in my life. I'm so overwhelmed with thankfulness right now...I mean seriously there are just so many flippin AMAZING people in my life. Peace out!

Have you ever read that book? Donald Miller is the author. I recommend it. That's what came to mind when I looked at this photo. Yesterday afternoon we had a "meeting" at a local coffee shop. First of all, I'd kind of a breakdown per say at lunch. God is performing massive surgery on my heart right now. Don't really know how else to explain it and I'm kind of glad I can't really explain it cause it would kind of take away from the wonder and grace of it all. Most of the office has left to go to Mt Isa for IWT and there are only a few of us left. We decided to have a meeting away from the office. Probably one of the most refreshing chats I've had in a while.

Let me take a few steps back...someone bought my coffee and brownie and that always makes for nice experience. And let me tell you the brownie was amazing. It was like this block of heaven. They even warmed it up and added a scoop of white chocolate ice cream. I mean who does that! It was so comforting to eat. Add that to the fact that I was wearing my favorite sweatshirt and comfort was my middle name. All I needed was a hug from my Mom to complete the perfection.

So we talked about so many things and I was just affirmed in my spirit about a few things I've been wondering about. It was like drinking a tall glass of ice cold water on a nice hot day. REFRESHING!

I was chasing the Ladah logo, as it would appear on the wall as a shadow only when cars were driving by reflecting light. You can check out my Flickr site for photos of that.

you know those mornings that you could almost take a bit out of cause they are so crisp...yup, it's one of those! my sweatshirt was a nice companion on the way to the office. i'm going home in a little over a week. i'm still in a stage of shock...it feels a bit surreal...but it'll be reality soon enough.

Well, tomorrow is Easter and I'm getting up at 5am to go to the top of Castle Hill for a sunrise service. I'm excited to go and worship the Lord on the day of His resurection. I'll let you all know how it goes. God bless you and may God reveal more of Himself to you this very special weekend.

Wow! It's been a while since I've posted but all you can do is move forward right. It's been raining on and off in Townsville and I've had clothes on the line since Sunday that are still not dry. I will probably need to re-wash them. Tonight is Family Night at the base where all of us eat dinner together and celebrate birthdays. I've always liked birthdays...celebrating the day when people came into the world. I think birthdays are pretty darn special.
